A couple of my friends and I, along with my husband who's from Italy went out to celebrate my birthday this past weekend. The South Bay has only a few Italian spots which are authentic. So after passing this restaurant a few times, we decided to dive in. It appeared really nice and seemed like an Italian ristorante. Lo' and behold! It was. The owners are from Roma (Rome) and can speak very good English. I can speak a little Italian, so I utilized the opportunity to practice. My husband spoke with them and said that they were young and just moved here a year ago. He agreed that they were really nice. There were a few Italian waiters; one whom served us. It was crazy that night; not sure if it's always like that... But we still got attention. The waiter was very attentive to us, although it was busy like the 405 freeway. We had fritto misto (fried calamari), as most of us Americans do. I had the zuppa del giorno which was delish! We split a salad. My friends drank wine and loved it. I don't drink, so I couldn't tell you personally how it tasted, but my friends ordered two bottles. I'm thinking it must've been good. We got a bottled water. After that was gone, I just drank regular water which was, surprisingly, not LA sewer tap; it was filtered. They must have a good filter because it was nice. As my main course, I had the fish of the day which was SUPER FRESH. The desserts are awesome. Whichever dessert you get, make sure to get gelato with it! YUM. Anyways, I had a great time. The ambience was bright and positive, the owners were so sweet, and our waiter was excellent and charming. I read a review saying that they were faking their Italian accents. lol I can tell that they most certainly are Italian, not Italian American. It's not very nice to make false accusations if you're not that cultured enough to know the difference. After having been to Italy a few times, I can say that this is an authentic Italian ristorante. These guys are new in town, but I have to crown them as the BEST Italian restaurant in the South Bay! Oh and the bolognese pasta is so good!

The location is cute and the ambiance is nice - outdoor dining down by the water. The service was great, too. Was sat before reservations. The food. We started with the buratta on eggplant and tomatoes with balsamic. Not bad. The eggplant was super salty but I liked the tomato and buratta on the bread. For dinner, My husband ordered the special of lobster ravioli. He loved it. There were big chunks of lobster and he enjoyed the sauce. My meal however left a lot to be desired. I got the beef tenderloin with potatoes and sautéed spinach. The waiter asked medium rare and I said I'd like it medium. It came out VERY rare not even medium rare as he had first indicated. I ate around the edges. The spinach was sautéed with nothing - no garlic, butter, nothing. Very tasteless. Same with the potatoes, super bland. My meal was such a huge disappointment but I'm glad my husband enjoyed his meal, as it was his birthday dinner and not mine. :)

Went here for a family night out and am super happy this opened in the area. The food is excellent, and the setup is great lots of outdoor seating, and a big window in the main room so they can open up the inside seating when its nice. The service was friendly, my only knock was that they seemed a little disorganized (people on 2 sides of us were seated after but received bread and had their orders taken first), normally I would dock a star for this sort of thing but the food was so good I'm not going to. Food -Appetizer - tiger prawns - was really good, not what I wanted to order, but definitely a solid dish and with 4 prawns its a good appetizer for 2 or 4 people -Ceasar salad - really good dressing, I should have asked for extra anchovies on top (that's how I like it anyway) Entrees -(Special) Black squid ink pasta - this was really fantastic, normally stateside I've just seen it where the pasta was basically dyed black, but they made the whole sauce from squid ink. I hope they keep this around. - Porcini Risotto - was probably the best cooked risotto I've had in this US, and I love porcini mushrooms. -Veal scallopini - was perfectly cooked as well and tasted great Dessert -Cheese cake - to be honest I wasn't a fan of this, but I like my cheese cake creamier and softer, theirs was pretty hard (personal preference) -Gelato - We ordered the vanilla, salted caramel, and cappuccino and they were all awesome- cap was the best. Portion size was really generous, 1 is definitely shareable for 4 people, 2 and you're really set (we went a little overboard) Anyhow I look forward to coming back, really solid addition to the neighborhood.

3.4 stars Excellent service. Waiters were friendly and service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was intimate, cozy and refined. It's a nice place for a date! The complimentary bread was toasted to perfection with superb texture! The food portions were a bit smaller than I expected for the price, but I guess for an Italian place of this sort, it was alright. The only thing I tried was the Fettuccini Bolognese, which I regret to say was quite average, nothing special and a little bit too salty for my taste. Overall, not bad but my review of the food is only based on one dish.

Redondo's Riviera Village needed a wonderful new Italian restaurant & here it is - located between Dennee's and Gus Vintage on Avenue I, a block from the beach. My first visit was for lunch today. I was charmed by the cozy upscale decor as well as by the owners' delightful Italian accents. Service was outstanding. (They will be expanding soon to include a wine bar, I was told.) My pasta meal is not on the menu, but was today's special. I would go back for this dish alone - it was that good: Ravioli with 4-cheeses filling & pesto sauce, topped with fresh tomato and pine nuts ($20). Upon first bite, my thought was: fresh. This is a light dish with delicate flavors. Perfection. Not an overwhelmingly huge portion, fine with me. It's available once or twice a week. I declined any bread, thinking of my waistline. Then I declined the dessert menu. Then the owner mentioned homemade apple strudel and my plan to limit calories flew out the open window on an ocean breeze. At least it was a half-portion.....but it came with the creamiest ice cream. Dang. I ate every sweet crumb. Thank goodness for stretchy workout pants. Bottega Romana is a bit pricey for the Village but I don't mind paying for top quality. The owners, a friendly Italian couple, visited my table a few times.....and it's apparent they take great pride in the food they serve. While enjoying the special, I felt special. Excellence equals successfulness.

We ate here last night for our anniversary dinner and it was SO delicious. We ignored prices and ordered whatever our hearts and/or tastebuds wanted, and it ended up being more than a "$$" bill, but you really get what you pay for at Bottega Romana. We had the grilled ocotopus appetizer, linguini porto venere pasta, and brasato al barolo (braised short ribs). I give everything 5 stars! Our wines were excellent too (Seven Falls cab and Franciscan merlot). I would've loved to try the dessert, but I was too full! Maybe I'll go back soon and just have an appetizer, wine, and dessert. Sounds like another date night to me :p

Bottega Romana has recently opened up in Riviera area of Redondo beach off of Avenue I. Super charming and cozy with outdoor and indoor dining options. It is very small inside and a little tight and not a whole lots of space to move around but feels very homey and comfortable. Next time I will sit outside :-) Bottega Romana is definitely a true Italian affair :-)..... The owners are all coming from Rome bringing with them recipes that they created with passion. They also offer amazing list of Italian Wines and the staff is extremely knowledgeable with finding best wine selection for taste and budget you looking for. We opted for a bottle of Sangiovese Superiore DOC Il Costone Braschi (Loved it...super smooth and not super expensive. We decided to try our food adventure with two orders of appetizers Polpo alla griglia: Mediterranean grilled octopus served with sautéed garlic, cannellini beans, sun dried tomatoes,Peewee potatoes and herbs This dish was extremely yummy and octopus was grilled to perfection, I never had Octopus with cannellini beans and I must say what a great combination. Tuna Tartare: Tuna with avocado, English cucumbers in a lemon dressing topped with chopped pistachios Tuna was fresh and seasoned well and served over lettuce. Then off to Salad: We tried Fregola con vegetali which was suggested by our Waiter , it is traditional semolina grain with green peas, roasted yellow and red beets, red onions & cherry tomatoes served with a balsamic dressing. Super flavorful and yummy. Last but not least was the Risotto: Italian Arborio Rice with Porcini mushroom, truffle oil finished with parmiggiano cheese. I am a Risotto snub and I must say this was one of the best Risotto I have had in a long time. I can't say enough on the amazing service we received here. We met the owner as well as the Chef. Nicest people and I truly sensed their passion for authentic Italian food. Metered parking available on the street or you can park at underground parking lot.

Last Saturday, Jen and I went here for dinner. It had great reviews and was nearby, so we stopped by. The building looked like a mini caesars palace and the guests were dressed nicely. We just came back from the beach, so we were casually dressed. The hostess said we were fine and let us in. The service was impressive and the staff worked very well as a team. They are all legit Italians. They spoke Italian and were classy. The food was in the right portions and hit the spot. We shared a caesar salad, meat and cheese platter, and fettuccine bolognese. Next time, I will wear a collar shirt!

About a year ago my mom and I traveled throughout Italy and this meal took us right back to that trip. From the food and wine to the service, Bottega Romana is identical to what you'd find in an authentic Italian restaurant. We shared the Burrata Ortolana appetizer which was absolutely incredible. For my main course I had the Bolognese which was a true testament to the Italian nonna cuisine, and finished with the apple tarte which couldn't have been better. Most of their wines were from Italian vintners, many of which we toured and tasted in Tuscany. Can't wait to come back, this is a must-eat restaurant if you live in or are visiting the South Bay.

Bottega Romana is the fairly new Italian eatery on the north side of Avenue I between Catalina and the Esplanade. Occupying a surprisingly small space on the first floor of a mixed-use office/retail development, the free parking available below makes this an easy to get into spot. There are about 8 tables for two on the outdoor patio and 4 tables for four inside and 6 tables for two inside. It is VERY small/cozy! However, the decor is decidedly chic and upscale - white linen tablecloths and black napkins are used inside and there is attractive art work throughout. The kitchen pass through is visible from the dining area. There is no place to hide here! I came in for lunch with a colleague. The service was very impressive. There was a hostess, a waiter and a server/busser. When we first got there and were one of two tables, this was great. They were a little short handed after 1PM when a crowd came in. Regardless, they were very friendly, orders were accurately delivered, and they were VERY accommodating. I ordered the Insalta Mista ($7.50) with lemon vinaigrette instead of balsamic and red onions added. It was a simple and well prepared mix of spring greens in a light and refreshing vinaigrette with shaved carrots and red onions as well as halved tiny grape tomatoes. Simple and well executed (albeit a little pricey, but you have to be with so few tables to turn). I also ordered a bowl of the special soup ($8) which was OUTSTANDING. It was a broccoli-spinach soup with no cream. The soup was well-seasoned and tasted rich while being quite light. I should have skipped the croutons because they, like the bread in the basket, tasted stale and added nothing to the dish. (Interestingly, the olive oil on the table also tasted old.) $20 for soup and salad (including tax and tip) is a little steep, but it is a pretty upscale establishment and the service is great. However, they need to work on the bread and olive oil at the table - it should be fresh at these prices!

We've been here two times for lunch. Excellent service and yummy, yummy food! The first time we got the meat & cheese appetizer. I got a salad and lentil soup. My husband got a flank steak thing with sauce. We loved the experience. This time we got the tuna tartare, caprese panini and the salmon salad. Annnd, some of the most delicious gelato ever. It's pricey--but I'm not complaining. Just telling. We live in the area and walked over, but there is street parking a little further away. They are supposed to open a wine bR soon. Can't wait to see it!

So far the best dinner out in the South Bay. Nice, but small place but we went on a Tuesday so there were only a few tables. Good range of options on apps, salads, pasta and entrees. Here's the run down: Finally - tuna tartare on a menu! It was not prepared as I expected but it was delicious. Skipped the salad and went right to entree after that - shrimp bow tie Pasta special for me and veal entree for the bf. My pasta was very rich, creamier than expected but very good. The veal was pounded thin and had a nice crisp and light glaze/sauce. I also went for dessert - a delightfully light and sweet and slightly tart lemon pie-like treat. Hit the spot! The only suggestion I have is to figure out the temperature inside - it was a bit warm but it was also humid out so hard to manage I guess. I will be back!

I order the same thing 90% at Italian restaurants: the bolongese pasta dish. This has become almost a running joke with my friends, but I do it because my grandmother and parents make great bolongese sauce and because I like it! I am happy to say this place has some of the bests pasta I've had in Los Angeles. It rivals (but does not surpass) good Italian places in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and it is easily the best Italian in the South Bay Area.

Good food, bad service, pass. The husband and wife team that own and operate this restaurant are very young and inexperienced. They do not know how to properly treat their patrons. Last night we visited the restaurant and in spite of the fact that the food was good, we will never be back and recommend you take heed and go ahead and skip this place also. We were not serviced well, we were treated with huge disrespect, and ended up being screamed at by the proprietress, repeatedly. We have lived in the South Bay for decades and have traveled the world and have NEVER been treated so poorly in an eating establishment. PS, I have never given such a negative review in Yelp before and am not a difficult customer.

Absolute favourite restaurant in The whole of South Bay, excellent atmosphere and a very genuine Italian feel with some of the best food in LA. Can not recommend any higher! They also have proper barista made espresso coffee.

Good food! Felt authentic, but was sad that the Parmesan cheese tastes kinda like the plastic bottle kind! However the penne burrata dish was amazing! The wine was delicious too. Service was a bit slow, but they were very busy! Nice atmosphere and setting!

The food was absolutely amazing! We got four dishes and everything was great. We had amazing service everyone was friendly and made us feel like we were in a little town in Italy. Wee were seated right away outside on the patio. We will defiantly come back.

I am Italian and I rarely go to eat Italian out, but did try this place for lunch. Sat in a charming balcony table and had a salad with large pieces of fresh Artichoke presented well, and was tasty. Good service but not crowded due to early time. Then my husband and I went back for a dinner and YIKES!! The charming balcony seat was filled with two tables squished together so tightly we could not be seated. We are thin people but it was ridiculously crammed. We were reseated, no problem on the patio. Very busy, with lots of Italian words thrown around. It is not necessary but I think tourists are impressed. The food should do the talking, but it did not. Penne pasta was SUPER al dente and the pomodoro was bland. If you cannot cook this simple pasta dish, that is just sad. My husband had a blob of pasta on his plate presented very lonely. Wine was just OK. Bread was fresh. I you are trying to impress a date, this might just do it for ya, but if you are serious about Italian dining, find an Italian friend to cook you dinner at home. I was born in America in a tri -lingual household and my first and fluent language is English. I assumed you are all Italian owners, so no need to convince me, or lecture. Your chef should ALWAYS check the pasta to insure it is al dente. That is just what people do when they cook. I prefer capellini and that would has been the true test. I do not send pasta back EVER. It is either brought to the diner correctly or not. No need to be defensive, you apparently have enough business that one less than perfect review from someone who came from an Italian background will not affect your performance.

Great food and service! I was very happy to finally find an Authentic fine Italian Restaurant in Redondo Beach. The staff is very nice and friendly and the chef is a real Italian, the homemade pasta is fresh and delicious and the tiramisu' was outstanding! I didn't have wine bit looking at the wine list it seem pretty wide and fairly priced.

Where to begin.. We made reservations for a Wednesday evening for my mom's birthday, and everything was beautiful. I lived in Italy for a few months, and the food here brought me right back to one of my favorite times in my life. Portions were amazing, prices were right on, and the service was awesome. It was quiet (they don't play music), and intimate. It would be perfect for a date night or other special occasion. We learned the owners are a married couple from Roma, and they both were there working. I could listen to their accents all night... So beautiful. They were both very welcoming, and everyone was attentive. The food was out of this world. You can tell everything was freshly prepared and authentic. The wine pours were also generous. Needless to say, I've found a new spot and will be returning.

I would rate this place 3 1/2 so I'm putting 3, 4 is too much. It's a very nice setting, I love the columns outside you can definitely tell it's Italian. I like that the entire staff is Italian too. They all have a very strong accent so it's hard to understand sometimes but it's fun. Had really good wine there too. Got the seafood pasta and the wife got the short ribs. I liked her dish better than mine. Pastas were under-cooked IMO and the tomato sauce was too watery and needed a good amount of salt and pepper. This place should also be rated at $$$ as many entrees were above the $31 mark and appetizers were like $15 each.

Since Bottego is on the "newer side," I waited until after my 2nd visit to review. I like it. FOOD - prepared with care. On my visits we've had tuna tartare, lentil soup, insalata misto, insalata di bosco, risotto ai porcini, brasato ai barolo and fish of the day. There's a good wine list selection. I like Brunello di Montalcino. The desserts have been good too. SERVICE - On both visits we had Giuseppe. He's knowledgeable, attentive and has a good sense of humor. Excellent service. ATMOSPHERE - I like quiet. On both visits we sat outside. There are plenty of heaters and we were "toasty" warm. I explored inside and didn't like it. It's loud. The sound seems to bounce off the walls. Still, I would not remove a * since the outside provides a reasonable alternative ... the food and service are worth a place on my local favorites list.

The food here is pretty good. I have no complaints. Had their linguini with clams. They have a really good selection of wine. Their dessert wine selection is fabulous. The staff is really friendly and helpful. 5 stars. They even stayed open late for us and said it was fine because it takes them some time to close up. Really loved the consideration. The place is comfy so we totally lost track of time!

Best Italian food in the South Bay!!! The employees and owners are all very welcoming and attentive. Not once was my water glass not full or was there not a clean fork next to me. The food was beyond fantastic, very delicious and authentic. If you want to have a real taste of Italy go here! Lastly, the best desert too! I highly recommend going here!!

After checking out the reviews for this place. We decided to try it out. We were impressed! Great food, great atmosphere! Prices are a bit high, but can understand why. It was the first time we didn't have leftovers! The portions are perfect because it leaves you room to try their awesome desserts! Give this place a shot! A great date night place!

My boyfriend and I were both born and raised in Italy. We still have our families there and take annual trips. Last Friday, we decided to join another couple and dine at Bottega Romana. It took almost an hour to receive our entrees. Despite our waiter assuring us that the risotto was a fabulous dish and prepared al dente, it was actually tasteless and overcooked. I am from Milan and I do know a few things about risotto. None of the entrees were remarkable and the food is Americanized and not authentic Italian food. The dinner tab was $250 for 4 people. After paying the bill, my boyfriend ordered another espresso. To our disbelief, the waiter who was Italian and with whom we spoke Italian that evening, charged us $4.34 for that espresso and never even returned with the change. If we had been in Italy, we would have most likely not been charged for that espresso and/or an after dinner liquor like Limoncello would have also been offered complimentary, as this is what Italian restaurants do to get their customers to return and feel special. We will not be returning to this restaurant. If we want to enjoy authentic Italian food with friendly and courteous Italian hospitality we will go elsewhere. The positives were that we were seated immediately upon arrival, the bread was good and the outdoor patio is quite lovely. This restaurant certainly lost our business and we will not refer our friends there. True Italian hospitality and authentic Italian food is not what we found at Bottega Romana.

Finally - a fantastic Italian Restaurant has come to the Riviera Village! I have owned a business in the Riviera Village for 15 years and love the choice of restaurants the village offers. I am so thrilled that Bottega Romana has come to the Village! This place is a true gem. The food is incredible. The owners/host/hostess - Valerio and Julia, direct from Rome, are so warm and wonderful. The ambiance is inviting and welcoming with a very attentive staff. Truly the best Italian food I have had in a very long time. Welcome and thank you for coming Bottega Romana!

Julia and Vallerio the owners are wonderful hosts and greeted us with smiles. We had a wonderful dinner and we're glad to have stopped in on the spur of the moment. We started with he quatro formaggio ravioli and it was very good, the filling was like comfort food. Then we tried the shrimp & salmon salad with fennel and it was sized like an entire', very fresh greens and the seafood was cooked to perfection. We then ordered the short rib on a bed of risotto and it was literally the best plate I think we've ever had, like anywhere!! The risotto was absolutely perfect, the short rib was to die for. (you have to order this!). We learned that the chef prepares gnocchi on Thursdays so we'll definitely be back to try that. We wish Julia and Vallerio the best of luck and I can say we're hooked on Bottega Romana!!

Have been excited to try this place ever since I saw its "coming soon" sign go up. We're sorely in need of good restaurants in Riviera Village, and I was hoping this would be a 5-star top-notch place. Is it? Well, not quite yet. But, its early, and I am hopeful that Bottega Romana will refine any rough edges it has, and become a star in the Village. For now, its just a very good option in the Riviera. I *nearly* gave it a 4-star review, but it hasn't quite made the transition yet. Here's an overview of our dinner. My wife and I came early on a Sunday night before heading to a concert at The Forum. We were greeted by the (very friendly) owner/hostess, and taken inside the restaurant for our reservation, and offered a choice of a few tables. The ambience in the restaurant is lovely. Cozy, quiet enough, and attractive. For our starter, we shared the seared scallops, which were flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Three large scallops cooked properly at a good price. My only complaint about this dish is that there was a little bit of grit on the scallops, indicating that they could have been washed/cleaned a bit more thoroughly, but overall, an excellent start to the evening. For the main course, I had the Barolo braised short rib and my wife had the mushroom risotto. The short rib was cooked very nicely, and was seasoned well. The saffron risotto it came with was flavorful and toothsome, though not as creamy as I would have hoped for risotto. I found the price a little high for the dish, and didn't really get the rich, hearty Barolo flavor that I was hoping for, but would definitely eat the dish again. Overall, good. My wife's mushroom risotto was also well flavored, with a nice hint of truffle, but it was a bit "one note" and, again, lacked the creamy, "saucey" feel of a perfect risotto. But, again, solid. For dessert, we split the tiramisu, which was easily the best part of the meal. Very authentic, fresh, and delicious. During dinner, the other owner came and introduced himself, and we discussed Italy, welcomed him to the neighborhood, and expressed our excitement for the opening of Bottega Romana. Overall? I'd like to give Bottega Romana 3.5 stars, but Yelp restricts me to whole numbers, so I am going to round down to 3, because I think its more accurate than 4. Bottega Romana is already superior to The Bottle Inn, and has just opened. The owners are extremely nice and receptive. The food varies from excellent to good. With some refinement, I'll confidently give Bottega Romana a four-star rating. I think it'll get there. I am very pleased to have Bottega Romana open in the Village. Can it be the five-star, phenomenal restaurant that I was hoping for? That remains to be seen. I think they'll have to step up their game a bit to make that happen, mostly just on the food front, but also with some more varied wine selections. Benvenuto, Bottega Romana! I think you've got a bright future.

Very small and intimate with a cute patio area that was well heated for a cool evening. Italian staff added to the authentic feel. House-made pasta was pretty good. Menu was a bit limited with too few vegetarian offerings. Wine was a bit in the pricey side per glass - about $15. I also thought the Caesar salad croutons were way too small. Geat place to catch up with a friend or two or would be nice for a date. Never felt rushed. Nice but comfortable!

Finest food has arrived from Rome! Travel around the world and stop right in Redondo Beach for classic pure dining pleasure. Everyone on the staff was Italian and the music of their voices made ordering even exciting. I had stopped in at lunch with a friend and we started with the vegetable puree with no cream sauce and croutons. It was so pure and wonderful. The salmon was prepared perfectly with vegetables. Each bite confirmed our speedy return. The bread was perfecto! We will bring our friends for an evening meal. This atmosphere and location is so lovely both inside and out on the sunny patio. We chatted with others who stopped in as we did, grateful to see they were open, They discovered the owners were from the same area in Italy. It is a small world we agreed, but the charm, and the food was, well, out of this world!

Made a reservation, but the hostess was nowhere to be found. So we walked inside and one of the staff seated us outside. It was packed but the food was good. Comfortable outdoor seating with the heaters, but very tight due to the high volume of folks. Pros: Location Cons: Food was forgettable Will try to come back on a less busy night.

Amazing. I had the salmon/sea bass combo in pesto and the bolognese. Tiramisu for dessert. I like to eat... So light and full of flavor. The servers were very attentive and courteous. I can't imagine someone saying they were rude on here. I would definitely come back. It's definitely NOT California cuisine it's Italian.

I am soooooooooooooooo happy to have a "real" Italian restaurant in our little village. Julia and Valerio are wonderful hosts and the food is just like it is in Italy, but then again, it is all Italians at Bottega Romana...Don't skip this place and they have food for everyone. I am vegetarian and they even had a soup that was vegan on the chef's special. Just delicious and priced well. Bon Appetito!

Not worth the money. The food is just average and the couple who manage the place have no idea how to run a restaurant. We had reservation came a few minutes early but were told that they cannot sit us down because we are too early. However they did sit down walk in. Very unorganized. Not going back for awhile and defiantly not making a reservation.

It's so nice to eat at an Italian eatery owned by a young passionate married couple who only 6 months ago transplanted to the So Bay from Rome. Even their staff are Italian! I must admit I was a bit suspect of the high menu prices, and wine selections by the glass and bottle were on the higher end. The dishes were indeed filling and experienced amazing depths of flavor not tasted elsewhere. Had the shrimp risotto and my husband had the fish special in red sauce. Will return with friends and family. Would suggest to offer a variety of lower wine prices because you can't eat your delicious food without wine!

Cute spot. Loved sitting outside. Food is okay, not the best Italian food. Dishes completely lacked flavor. Dessert was a huge disappointment. The blueberry cheesecake thing was so stale, I am convinced it was old, but they served it anyway. Should have sent it back but we just left it on the table barely touched. If we come back, we will just get a glass of wine and maybe an appetizer to enjoy the ambiance. Not coming back for lunch or dinner though.

Tried this little gem last night. Only about seven tables on the inside and maybe seven more tables and some bigger ones on the outside. Was quite busy on a Saturday night. For appetizers we had a dish that has some Italian meats and cheeses as well as the Frito Misto, which included calamari as well as shrimp which is really fantastic as was the other appetizer. For our main course I had the beef short rib and my date had a pasta with scallops and shrimp both of which were absolutely amazing. Their wine selection included some California wines and an Italian selection that looks like it's from the Tuscany region and they had at least two or three that were absolutely fantastic and reasonably priced. Check this place out pretty sure you won't be disappointed especially considering the selection of restaurants that we have in the south bay.

ok now this review is LONG OVERDUE! I came here to dinner with my parents a few months ago. my dad found it on yelp so we decided to come give it a try and it was just amazing, the place is tiny but cozy and the owners are so sweet, we ordered a few dishes, I got the funghi ravioli (I think that's what its called) and oh man it was DELICIOUS! you could tell that the food is pretty much handmade and tastes amazing. after dinner the owners actually came out and talked to us the husband and wife are so pretty! and then after that the cook came out and introduced himself to us as well...when we went they had just been open for about 3 months or so I believe. I have high hopes for this place and definitely will try to come back again in the future!

Very good home made pasta, perfect al dente! Loved every dish we had. Very reasonable compare to some other Italian we have been to. Chef made fettuccine Alfredo for my son even though it was not on the menu. Perfect night except they messed up my reservation but they gave us dessert on the house to apologize. We were there with good friends and waited a little because of that. So that was nice move on the restaurant. It made everyone happy after all.

Enjoyed a lovely evening last night at Bottega Romano. We enjoyed the rib eye steak with arugula and Parmesan which was exquisitely prepared. So delicious ! We paired it with a delicious Chianti which was so smooth ! Followed by a sinful tiramisu! What more could a girl ask for ! The service was great and all the staff were very welcoming. I will certainly return to this excellent restaurant soon!

I had heard mixed reviews about the service and food here, but our party of four had an amazing experience. Everyone from the hostess to the chef was fantastic... and the food was excellent! We each had a different dish, and all were delicious. Definitely on our list of places to eat in the village.

Great new addition to the village. The food was delicious. We ordered the carpaccio - lightly dressed, great flavor, the fregola salad was perfect for sharing and our entrees; the short rib and rigatoni were prepared beautifully - both had great flavor. The short rib was very tender and the barolo sauce was flavorful and not too rich. Pastas are fresh made. Personally, I loved that the portion sizes are not huge. The pasta was perfect and enough to share. A little on the pricey side. The service was good - everything came out at a good pace. Attentive staff. The owner was on site and came over to make sure we enjoyed our meal and thank us. The restaurant is not finished and expanding into the next building allowing for more indoor seating. I'll be back.

Some of the food (not all) is really good. But something creepy and outrageous occurred service-wise and unfortunately, we will never go back. First, what I think was the owner or manager (gray hair) and hostess - VERY friendly! They honored our reservation and were smiling and working hard the entire time. So our initial impression was very good. The starters that arrived were delicious and despite a long wait for them, worth the wait. THEN THIS HAPPENED: My friend is a sommeilier. We were going to bring our own wine as usual but because of the $24 corkage fee (a bit high but it's their perogative). So we ordered some wines by the glass and my friend ordered a bottle of red wine. Upon drinking it, we noted that the wine had turned as it was thick and brown, smelled a little like blue cheese and tasted sweet even though it was not supposed to. So, they sent the wine back. Then my friend ordered a glass of Fireside being familiar with it and knowing it's something they like. When it arrived, the waiter had POURED A GLASS OF THE WINE THAT THEY SENT BACK trying to pass it off as the Fireside. Upon tasting it - it was obvious it was the same very unique, TURNED wine being poured as if it were something else on the menu! I tasted it too and YUP it was the SAME WINE that they had sent back! Basically this did not occur just once but TWICE. I am picturing the waiter in the back kitchen, pouring the wine and saying something like, "Watch, they'll never notice that the wine is the same wine they sent back". Anyways, it was beyond insulting. And then GET THIS he brought the opened bottle BACK to the table and asked if anyone wanted to "TRY THIS WINE". I guess he lost track of who he had taken the wine back from? But seriously, a high end place with such nice people working the front should really train its staff and treat its customers better.Super sketchy. I just hope that this waiter's behavior was not condoned by the owner but seeing how small of a restaurant it is, and how everyone was working so closely together and communicating actively all night I cannot help but wonder. But a turned wine is a turned wine and they should have thrown it out. As a courtesy, we're sending a letter to the owner of course as he/she may not have any idea that their waiters are behaving this way. But, for now, because of this we will never be back which is unfortunate because a few of the items we tasted were really good. Just not all - e.g. the salads were really just ok - nothing special. Oh and all the food took FOREVER to arrive. Not sure if the kitchen is understaffed or if the waiter made an error by not putting the order in on time. But other reviews said food took forever as well.

This place is awesome! They have a great ambiance and the staff is amazing. The Italian girl at the front doesn't hurt business, I'm sure. My wife and I have figured out that "Bottega" means $200 in any language. Every Bottega restaurant we dine at has had a greater than $200 check for 2 people. However they've all been worth it, including this one. Great appetizers, great wine, great steak...and of course great desserts.

It was our first time to Bottega Romana and we went on a busy Friday night. Perhaps that's why this is a 4 star review and not a 5. When we arrived, we waited at the host stand to check in for our reservation, but the hostess was nowhere to be seen. And while made eye contact and got nods from the bussers and servers as they passed by, none stopped to acknowledge us or the other guests that were all waited awkwardly at the host stand too. Sometimes, just a "I'll get the hostess right now and it will only be a moment" is enough. But once we sat down on the patio, it was a great experience. The service/food was still bit slow (which I attribute to a Friday at peak hours), but the food was amazing. We ordered the Gamberi alla fiamma & Linguini Porto Venere. All in all, I enjoyed Bottega Romana and would definitely eat there again.

Last night we had a to go order - we both had the shrimp risotto. It is at disadvantage that it was to go, But it was one of the best risottoes that we have ever had in America. It had a disadvantage that we had just returned from Provance and it STILL was a fantastic risotto. The rice was arborio, the shrimp, fresh, tender, the zucchini, crispy. I only wish i had leftovers for lunch today. Am so happy you have opened in the South Bay. Thank you!

Had dinner on a sat evening. Made a reservation around 5pm for 8:30pm with no trouble. The patio is nice. Not sure if the staff has a script of Italian phrases??? It seemed that way. We ordered glasses of the house chianti, which was good. The only problem was this wine was not offered by the bottle. If you are looking for a reasonable priced bottle of wine, good luck. All of the bottles of wine very expensive. So we stuck with a few glasses. I ordered the Caesar salad, which was good. My meal was the pasta pomodora, my pasta was under cooked, sorry to say. I was not impressed. Also, the bread they provide is hard and airy. If you share a meal not to pricey. Honestly, I will stick with bottle in across the street. Do not think we will be going back. Maybe in the summer. Also, there is only one women's bathroom. I found myself in a long line. I like to give new business's a second chance. Maybe next time,!

Last night we found a new gem in the village. Bottega Romana was a quaint Italian restaurant with great service and food. And another touch that I love so much - the personal touch of not only the owners, who roam to each table, but also the chef and the wait staff who make you feel right at home. Our server was very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable enough to allow him to pick my glass of wine for me and he nailed it perfectly. We started sharing the Carpaccio, Fregola con vegetali and a cup of Zuppa del giorno. Not only was each dish beautiful, they all were perfectly seasoned and were great. For my entree I tried the Penne Pomodoro & burrata. Again it was perfect. My girlfriend asked if she could get the special (Penne alla Vodka sauce) without the salmon and they accommodated her request without any hesitation. My boyfriend had the Spaghetti Diavola and loved it. For dessert I had the tiramisu - it was spot on. My girlfriend had vanilla ice cream and salted caramel which is a must and to die for - my boyfriend had the spumoni which was wrapped in a chocolate shell. There are so many more things I want to try on the menu. We sat next to the kitchen pass through window and saw and smelled some fantastic looking plates. Cannot wait to go back and try the Brasato al Barolo. We will return for more yummy food and great service. I think you will do very well in the village. Welcome home.

The food is good here and the owners make you feel very welcome but with the amount of money spent (we were sitting outside) all you hear is traffic..no low Italian music..just cars.Seriously a little atmosphere would take this restaurant to another level...I am hoping when the bar opens this will change, until then I will not be going back

It felt like I fell into real Italian ambiance and gourmet food last night, The place was dimly lit with candlelight, white and black contrasting linens dressed the tables, good food and wine was on the menu and a friendly Italian waiter poised to take your order. There is a nice patio area but we sat inside. We had a glass of wine and then I had a salad mixed with greens, frisse and prosciutto. The server kept checking in and made recommendations for us. The bread was fresh and the main course for my friend was fettuccini and in a tasty Bolognese sauce. My friend had a peach gelato and the plating was just as outstanding as the dessert. We met Julia and welcomed her and her native Italian co workers/owners to the Beach. They have brought genuine Italian recipes and a passion for a fine dining experience to the beach. Everyone is very friendly and you can tell they love what they do. We are in desperate need of places like these and I look forward to visiting the bar when its complete! Definitely an affair to remember!

We had dinner here recently with good friends and were seated on the patio. I had heard the service was poor but we were seated right away. The ambiance was lovely. Our appetizers came quickly but we did wait a long time for our main course. However, it was so delightful on the patio and such a beautiful evening that it did not disturb me in the slightest. Had we been sitting inside I might have felt differently. We ordered 2 desserts for sharing and without any prompting the waiter told us they were on the house for the wait we had. The food here is excellent and the patio very, very charming. I think there is great potential they just need to get it together a little bit more in the kitchen.

We had high hopes when we made reservations at Bottega Romana. The restaurant is beautiful. Chic inside, plenty of great patio seating outside. Free parking underneath. Sadly, the food and service don't live up to the promise of the decor. We were seated instantly, our order was taken promptly, and the salads came in a reasonable amount of time. Two at our table had Caesars which were simply chopped lettuce in a bowl. No feathers of parmesan, no presentation value. One in our party had the caprese which was interesting and tasty but not classic. The addition of the zucchini and slice of unpeeled eggplant made it a tower that was tough to eat. Another in our party ordered soup which came long after the salads. We then waited 45 minutes for our entrees. We received them only because we asked what happened to our food. The waiter passed often without acknowledging our table. Two of us had the rib eye (cold and served with a salad which is odd since we already had salad) No starch on the plate. The meat was not marbled, it was fatty. There were pieces that were inedible. One of our guests had pasta which she described as 'Incredibly al dente". Some might say 'crunchy'. The bolognese was passable. The standout was the salmon. It wasn't hot but our guest said it tasted good and it was beautifully plated. While the desert menu looked delicious, we all passed and went somewhere else because we didn't want to wait another forty-five minutes for coffee and desert. We don't be returning. Pity. We had so looked forward to an excellent dining experience.

My boyfriend and I came here for a pre Valentine's Day dinner and were very impressed with the food and service. This is a newer restaurant that I found on yelp and decided to check it out. We had the barrata to start which was delicious and I had the special lamb bolognese and he had the chicken with capers. The special was good but nothing "special". Service was on point and If I have an Italian crAving I would definitely be back. There are a lot of reviews talking about small portions. The portions were not large but decent.

it may be early to review this place since i've only had a panino caprese... but i was impressed. we'll see if the stars go up or down with updates. i will go back. the panino had some depth, there was more than just balsamic vinegar & oil, but i couldn't tell you what, some kind of pesto, the slices of cheese were huge & thick - just how i like 'em - and the tomatoes were... well, tomatoes. the ciabatta is a bit massive, but it soaks up a lot of the pesto sauce so i did end up eating it all. i took a side of mixed greens - rich dark greens and cherry tomatoes with a very bright citrus dressing. this is actually what impressed me most. they took something as basic as "mixed greens" and still made it unique. the owners have thick accents, so if you parla italiano, then you have an advantage here. they still need more time to get more organized, but i won't fault them for it. i'll continue to update as i try more of the menu.... so far so good. ... one odd observation. it's a small spot with casual décor, but it was very crowded, and most patrons had on sport jackets or high heels. i felt out of place in my jeans & sweatshirt and glad i made my order for take-out. the ambiance doesn't seem to fit the current clientele.

I made a reservation for a party of 6 on 1/10; the restaurant called me and cancelled my reservation. Seems it was raining all day and they said "open table sat you outside - sorry for the inconvenience." I can understand the dilemma, but this, in my opinion was a problem that required a solution from the restaurant. A simple gesture like an invite to come back at another time and enjoy a glass of wine compliments of the house would have gone a long way. We went to Zazou and had an excellent dinner there as always.

On the recommendations of several clients/friends, 3 of us tried out this **FANTASTIC** restaurant in the Rivera village. Let me start off by saying that the service from start to finish was great. The two owners ( can we pleasssse mention how gorgeous they are? Seriously. What does Italy put in its water that makes both women AND men look like that?!?!) took tremendous pride in their guest experience including coming up to our table and personally welcoming us and thanking us for coming. And, sweet baby Jesus, THE FOOD! It was DELICIOUS! I had a sea bass that was to die for! My Friend had the rib eye steak which was soooo tender and flavorful we had to just close our eyes while we chewed. Our other friend had the pumpkin ravioli that you could just taste how fresh and homemade it was! I can't wait to go back and take more friends. The *only* warning I had was MAKE A RESERVATION! the inside space is tinnnny! Only 9 tables. Outside has more seating but the day we went it was a bit windy and chilly so we were glad to be inside!

I again appreciate your response, and indicate now that this is my last. You have my information on the night I dined there and my exact total on my bill. Pull the information, I don't have it. Your special wine was $20 per glass- look at my receipt before you make another comment. Your servers charged for two items without my authorization, you charged me for something you did not serve, and you fail to realize that my bill was almost $200 before you made a few changes to it. I still spent $190, look it up!

this was our second visit and just like the first, everything was terrific..the owners are there overseeing everything, the wait staff is attentive and the food is delicious..the outdoor patio is warm and intimate..we have enjoyed several terrific dishes and look forward to trying more, my only suggestion to the owners would be to have a printed leave behind for your specials, they are too numerous to remember and to good to miss...see you soon

  • Nanette B.

Dear owner of Bottega Romana, To answer your comment. No we do not know Gary B, we only read his review and noticed that we had the same experience, which prompted us to write a review since we had personally talked to you about this and you said it is not your normal business practice to overcharge and up-sell. You blamed it on the waiter and said we should come back and give it another try. You must remember us.....on our way out you asked us how it was. We said the food was very good but we were overcharged and did not appreciate the waiters tactics. If you want to know specifically.....1) your waiter asked if we wanted truffle oil. My wife asked if there was an extra charge. The waiter said "no it's just a different flavor" (no mention of a $10 extra charge even after specifically asking).....2) we were up sold on the wine.....3) we specifically asked for regular tap water (because your waiter did not offer upfront as an option) and were brought bottled water already opened. We could have overlooked some of this, but when we got the bill we now had 3 extra charges that we did not ask for. The charges were not specific, seemed hidden, something like "Open Table" or "Open Food" charge (which ended up being the truffle oil). We had a feeling this was you normal business practice but after talking to you we really hoped you were sincere and would iron this out for future guests. We re-visited your restaurants reviews on Yelp to see if you had ironed this out so we could give you another try. Sadly we see that your waiters are, in fact, trained to up-sell and and not disclose pricing.

I had heard from friends that this restaurant has authentic Italian food. The owners are from Rome. I made a reservation, but it was last minute so our table was set to be outside in the patio. I told the owner that it would be too cold for me so she was so gracious to juggle tables and give us an indoor table. Everything we ordered was excellent! We certainly will go back there for dinner.

ambience was nice. we were seated right away with a Saturday nite reservation. Service was also very good. First two courses were ok. however, we had the raviolis and they were out of this world. The complimentary tiramisu for desert completed a wonderful romantic meal.

Ok, we didn't take any photos, that is so yesterday...however, the food was perfect. We (my two high friends from 30 years ago and myself) went for my birthday dinner. The very lovely Italian owners (Romans) were so gracious and spent time talking to us, and even brought the very grumpy chef out to meet me (I'm a chef and have been to Sardinia many times, the chef's home island). While the chefs demeanor was not very nice, the results from his kitchen delighted. We shared all of the food, all of which was exemplary of mod/Italian. The burrata on grilled veg was creamy and delish, just wish there was more burrata. The tuna tartare was so flavour packed on crisp lettuce leaves, I could have had that as my main. We also had the porcini ravioli that was on special for the day, flavour was really nice, but the porcini hadn't been properly cleaned so it was a bit gritty, but truly a beautiful flavour combo. While I opted to skip dessert (ate so much bread and gorgeous EVOO/balsamic), because they knew it was my birthday, they brought me out a tiramisu with a candle and song!!! Very thoughtful indeed!!! The location is also stunning, go on an evening when you can sit outside, decor is simple and elegant!!! We will def be back many times for the food and the beautiful couple that own the place!

So glad we tried this new place- good food and great friendly service! The only down side was the fact that the tables were too close together so the poor waiters couldn't get by very well- they need to take out a table or two!

Planned on heading redondo for dinner and picked this place because it was new in town. It definitely did not disappoint! Had the amazing grilled octopus for appetizer and then the spaghetti diavolo for a pasta. Then the filet and veal piccata. Everything was so delicious. So happy that there is an authentic Italian place in the area now. The head chef is from Italia and the owner is from the Calabrese region. I recommend to anyone looking for a date night that feels like Italy but is right around the corner!

I will not be coming back. We made a reservation however 45 minutes before we got a call that our reservation has been moved this should have been a first clue. When we got to the restaurant we have been properly greeted by owners and it seemed like it would be great experience but as evening continued the situation has developed, before we even finished our desert and champagne waiter brought our bill and said he needs our table. My friend was very upset about it and talked to the owners wife Julia and she wasn't very accommodating she said it is Saturday night and we were already at the table for 1.28 minutes. We did not realize we are being timed. Another owner came up and tried to apologize but he didn't even attempt to make it better. Needless to say evening was ruined by their strange behavior which made us uncomfortable. Food was ok. I wish this restaurant good luck. I would think after spending $100 for dinner in redondo beach we should have had some courtesy at least. Never in my life I have been treated this way.

My wife and I are locals who came in on a busy night without reservations, but the host was very nice and was able to accommodate us at one of the outside tables. We were disappointed with how long it took to receive a menu and our food, especially when tables seated after us were served first. Luckily they refill the bread baskets or we might have walked out. We ended up ordering the Penne Alla Romana and the Pollo Piccata ai carciofini. The natural flavors of both dishes were overwhelmed by the salt and butter. The Penne was surprisingly not fresh which is what you would have expected for the price. I love vegetable sides but the ones that came with my Pollo Piccata were either saturated with butter or under-cooked. Overall, the ambiance and the staff were nice, but the service and the food left a lot to be desired. We will not be back.

I had a business lunch in this new Italian restaurant with one of my partners. We had linguini al Porto Venere: really delicious. I found the staff attractive and professional . The environment is new, bright and very pleasant . I travel a lot for work and often I was in Italy and I can say that the food is typical Italian and the products are of excellent quality. this is a place to suggest to people who love Italian food.

This place is amazing!!! We've needed an Italian Restaurant ever since we've moved here, 14 years ago. The husband & wife owners are so gracious & nice...you really WANT them to suceed. I had one of the specials which was chilean sea bass picatta & mashed potatoes. It was excellent. Fish was cooked to perfection & the picatta sauce was superb. My husband had the spaghetti diavola and asked them to make it NOT spicey and he loved it. I also had the soup of the day, which was a butternut squash, but it was made without cream & it was wonderful, Not as heavy as when it is made with the cream. We each had a desert & shared. The tiramisu was outstanding, as was the lemon tart-like desert. All in all it was excellent. I will be going there often. Without a doubt the best Italian restaurant within 30 miles or more...and the Riveria Village needs a quality restaurant. I hope they make it. I will do my part in helping them!

I haveeen to bottega romana with my wife on valentine's day and we had a faboulus experience ,the restaurant was asmdorned with dozens of baloons and lit with candlelight !!! As soon as we arrived we've been welcomed by the hostess/owner julia, she treated us in a very friendly way and she managed to let us seat in a particular spot on the patio! Our waiter was italian ,and he has been more than helpful, nice and funny but still professional , he assisted us in choosing the right main course and the wine , the food was amazing , i have been to italy several times and i' m always disappointed by the italian restaurants in the south bay area, cause they claim to be italian , when they don' t even speak the italian! Bottega romana's owner are italian, ( you can feel that straight from their accent!!) And the chef is italian too, he' s from sardinia and he has created an amazing menu , i had the burrata, was simply delicious ,fresh and light!!!! Another thing to say it's that despite the fact that it was a very busy night the service was really good! We met also the owner valario, julia's husband , they are really a cute couple and they have done a nice job creating a cozy and friendly environment , plus they are expanding in the next suite where they are building a wine bar! Can't wait for it! Bottega romana it's a true jem and i highly recommend this place to all the people that care for real italian food! Bravo bottega romana!!!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
